GÉANT Gender Equality Committee (GEC)

Committee overview

To create a truly inclusive work environment, we must consider what barriers exist to gender equality within our organisation and make changes to our activities, policies, and practices, in order to remove them. We must ensure that our workplace culture and ethos respects individual needs and personal circumstances, and enables our employees to enjoy a healthy work-life balance.

All employees, no matter what their role, should feel psychologically safe in the work environment. Importantly our leadership team leads by example, showing their commitment to gender equality not just in words but in actions.

Gender Equality Plan

Community and collaboration are critical to our success at GÉANT. Gender equality is a fundamental part of this.

After considering the potential barriers to gender equality within GÉANT, we created an action plan which, over time, will address the issues identified and help us to become a better organisation. We are proud of our diverse community and committed to ensuring that GÉANT remains a positive and supportive workplace for all, and a role model for our community.

The GÉANT Gender Equality Plan focuses on four thematic areas:

Work-life balance and organisational culture

Gender balance in leadership and decision-making

Gender equality in recruitment and career progression

Measures against gender-based violence, including sexual harassment

Gender Equality Principles

The GÉANT Community has developed seven gender equality principles that it wishes organisations involved in the community to endorse.

We are inviting each NREN and other affiliated organisations to sign up to and endorse these gender equality principles. By doing so, your organisation is making a commitment to support the principles in all aspects of its operations, and to provide resourcing to organisational and community efforts in order to meet the intentions of these principles.
